Abstract
- The article presents information on various music recordings. Field recordings are for scholars, obsessives, eccentrics, obscurantists and pseuds. Back in the 1970s, artist Steven Feld composed and performed and was ultimately moved to tears by his own mourning song for two anthropologist colleagues who had returned to the U.S. Only then, he believes, did he begin to get inside the way music felt to the Kaluli themselves. Feld's work has helped fuel an indigenous neo-traditionalist tendency. Nineteen guitar-band songs that fill disk one of the music recording "Bosavi," take up themes of loss and sharing that are consciously Kaluli.
