Abstract

The article presents a case of two captive adult African ostriches manifesting poor appetite and weakness. It says that the 11-year-old female ostrich was treated with antibiotics and anthelminthic, while the 13-year-old male ostrich was given with Lactated Ringer's solution with five percent dextrose and injected with dexamethasone sodium phosphate and enrofloxacin. It mentions that no clinical improvement was observed which led to the euthanasia of the two ostriches. It relates that postmortem examination showed exocrine pancreatic degeneration, diminished pancreatic mass, necrosis and atrophy. It also adds that toxicologic testing revealed high levels of zinc.
