Abstract

The article discusses results of a study that examines the use of computed tomography (CT), contrast and non-contrast, in diagnosing brain, multiple pulmonary and pharyngeal abscesses in two calves. Details of cases of calves diagnosed by contrast-enhanced CT are provided. The study suggests the use of contrast method with CT to enhance lesion detection and provide more lesion characterization. It notes that the ring enhancement effect indicates necrosis from a defective blood-brain barrier or contrast material retention in abnormal vascular tissues. It concludes that contrast method with CT has greater potential in abscess diagnosis.
