Abstract
- The article discusses the idea of incorporating the traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) of indigenous communities into western ecological science (WES). The author notes that such an incorporation will enhance the effectiveness of wildlife conservation and management. The use of TEK by indigenous groups to develop wildlife management plans is explained. Also discussed are the opportunities to teach TEK to students and the barriers to strengthening the role of TEK in wildlife science.
