Abstract
- This article considers the role of the judge-king during the Middle Ages of the 12th to the 13th centuries. It examines the development of the Common Law, using historical records and chronicles in the centuries prior to the reign of Alfonso X of Spain. The author analyzes the extent of the power of the king-judge, especially in law legislation, as well as his superiority over the king-legislator. He also studies the relationship between secular and ecclesiastical law during this time period, including the importance of the king in the administration of justice in both sectors.
