Abstract
- The article presents testimonies from middle-school girl students in colonial Vietnam. Students used to keep notebooks in which their friends or teacher would write a note. The article analyzes Diêu Biên's notebook. Diêu Biên and her friends studies in a prestigious school called Dông Khánh. Their memories are full of joy and pride and happiness, and are a proof of the change in Vietnamese society, the fact that girls were able to laugh in public, or wear colorful dresses. In addition to French, history or literature, they were then studying music or sewing.
