Abstract
- The article discusses the importance of the identification, protection and preservation of reindeer migratory routes and calving grounds in the Yamal, Tazovsky and Gydansky peninsulas in Western Siberia. Wild reindeer thrived in the area, but with the deposits of natural gas and gas fields, its herds started to collapse, attributed to factors including the poaching and destruction of reindeer pastures, and the fragmentation of reindeer herd ranges and interrupted traditional migration routes.
