Abstract

The article reflects on the multiple names of Hindu gods as represented in thesauri. It says that there are similar problems arising from these multiple names are encountered while developing Tamil-English bilingual thesaurus. It tells that supreme deity Vishnu and The Mother LalitA-Ambika each has over a thousand names, while Siva, Ganesa, and Subramanya have multiple appellations. It mentions that among multiple names there may also be synonyms like kamalannan and tamaraikannan.
