Abstract
- The article discusses the commercial and industrial development of an agrarian Spain in the 19th century, with particular attention to Trénor y Cía, the company of a bourgeoisie Irish family that lived in Valencia. The article describes the use of accounting historical data found in the archives of the municipality of Vinalesa in Valencia, Spain. The Trénor family's industrial and business ventures are discussed and the relationship between industrialism and agriculture is evaluated, as the author identifies the family's ability to relate business to an agrarian society as a key factor in its success during that time period.
