Abstract
- The article focuses on the strain facing sailors of the U.S. Navy and their families in line with short notice "surge" deployments. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus emphasizes the need to implement more predictable deployment schedule to ease the strain facing crews and their families. Mabus explains how the stress of the hectic pace of operations of the Navy is affecting systems, training and people. Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Gary Roughead shares that greater demand for Navy forces has resulted to longer deployments and shorter dwell.
