Abstract

The article discusses research comparing the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) using the criteria proposed by the International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) and using the Australasian Diabetes in Pregnancy Society (ADISP) criteria. It describes the prospective study over a six-month period examining 1,275 glucose tolerance test (GTTs) results for GDM diagnosis in Wollongong, New South Wales. It concludes that the proposed IADPSG criteria would increase the prevalence of GDM from 9.6% to 13.0%.
