Abstract
- The article describes the plight of three whales that were trapped by sea ice near Barrow, Alaska in 1988. The rescue has become part of local history and media lore, and will soon hit the big screen as "Everybody Loves Whales." The incident has led observers to say that gray whales and other whale species may be changing their behavior because of ecosystem changes. According to a research by Sue Moore, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) biological oceanographer, gray whales venture further north in search of better food.
