Abstract

Information about California Indians who live in the California Culture Area is presented. Their lifestyles vary depending on the habitats of their region and they speak about 100 dialects such as Uto-Aztecan. Without a need for farming, California Indians are used to hunt for food in their area. They also build shelters with different styles including the tule house, which has a cone-shaped pole frame covered by tule mats, and plank shelter, which is a domed pit house covered with soil.
