Abstract

In order to forecast the injury effects of thermal radiation generated from unconfined vapor cloud explosion, the unsteady flow field of premixed vapor cloud explosion with methane and air in unconfined space was numerically calculated by computational fluid dynamics technology. The distribution laws and method to calculate injury radius of thermal radiation generated from vapor cloud explosion were obtained. The results indicate that the peak value of the thermal dose is closely related to the mass of vapor cloud, and it assumes exponential attenuation law versus distance. The thermal injury range of vapor cloud explosion is larger than that of condensed matter explosion source with same mass, and the thermal dose of the former attenuates more slowly versus distance than that of the latter.
