HERNÁN CORTÉS Y SUS CRONISTAS: LA ÚLTIMA CONQUISTA DEL HÉROE.

The article focuses on the influence of “Cartas de relación,” the account of the conquest of Mexico by the Spanish soldier and explorer Hernán Cortés, on Spanish colonial historiography. The author considers the stylized depiction of Cortés as the heroic Conquistador and traces its literary influence on other Spanish accounts of the Conquest of the Americas including those of early 16th century chroniclers Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo and Pedro Mártir de Anglería.
