Abstract

The article discusses a research study on the utility of egg yolk in the diagnosis of avian metapneumovirus (AMPV) antibodies in layer hens. Researchers experimentally challenged AMPV-free commercial layer hens with oculonasal or intravenous administration of AMPV strain SC1509 and then through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), the antibody levels were determined. Results indicated that AMPV infection diagnosis by yolk ELISA could be more suitable for the detection of anti-AMPV antibodies than serologic testing.
