Abstract

The article discusses a study on the known fungal pathogen Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) isolates that have been collected and archived in various locations around the world. The study revealed that 53% of the 257 Bd isolates originate from ranids in the U.S. It is noted that Bd causes the disease chytridiomycosis, which is lethal to many species of amphibians worldwide. The creation of a centralized database of isolate information was suggested by the researchers due to unavailability of detailed information on isolate origin in many cases.
