Abstract
- This article discusses the impact of the decision of judge Edward Coke's in "Calvin's Case" on English common law. The case involved citizenship rights under the English crown and ruled that an individual who was born in Scotland after the unification of the two kingdoms was not an alien in England and could inherit property there. The decision had far reaching impacts on the concept of Nation-State sovereignty under the common law and illustrated the political impact of the development of jurisprudence in seventeenth century England.
