Abstract

This paper describes the procedures that can be used by school professionals to translate the directions of a test from one language (English) to another (Spanish). The procedures were then applied to the translation of four nonverbal Differential Ability Scale subtests into Spanish. The translation of these directions is provided in an appendix. The performance of a referred population of 97 Spanish speaking children, who were given the translated directions, mirrors that of children in the DAS standardization sample. Evidence from internal validity coefficients, concurrent validity coefficients, and construct validity suggests that the DAS nonverbal subtests can be translated and yield information comparable to non-translation. The translation provided makes possible a more standard administration of this test to Spanish-speaking children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
