Abstract

The article offers the author's insights on the role of Buddhism in Tibetan independence movement in 2008. The author notes that monks and nuns often leaded the demonstrations and reportedly flew Tibetan flags to replace Chinese flag. He asserts that many of the resistance movement members have challenged the effectiveness of Buddhist principle of non-violence as policy. He cites the statement of Tibetan writer Jamyang Norbu that Buddhism not just concerns peace but seeks to find the truth.
