Abstract
- The article discusses the reality behind reality television (TV) programs in the U.S. which include "Survivor," "The Amazing Race" and "American Idol." It notes that "Survivor" introduced the reality genre and was also a test case for the power of the new TV/radio/billboard conglomerate. According to author Jennifer Pozner, media conglomerates used their major news outlets as promotional vehicles for this particular genre of entertainment.
