Abstract
- The article focuses on the written representation of the relationship between Spanish cities, their patron saints and nationalist sentiment in 13<superscript>th</superscript> to 17<superscript>th</superscript> century Andalusian historiographic discourse. The author reflects on the religious dimension of Spanish nationalism during this period and the use of saints as symbols of belonging. She explores various ways in which urban spaces were sacralized including the possession of relics of saints, the creation of images of saints and accounts of saintly apparitions.
