Abstract

The concept about the competition between Chinese local governments originated in 1990s about attracted the attention of theoretic studies increasingly nowadays. In the background of economic globalization and China's institutional restructuring, the study on the competition between local governments goes on to view the issue from the four aspects as follows in academic with the intention of causing local governments to be competitors as well as cooperators, i.e., financial federalism, public choice, new institutionalism and governance theory. Furthermore, in view of the foreseeable economical/ social development in China, the study on the competition between local governments is required to explore the solutions to the problems in depth, such as the fiscal decentralization, examination system of officials, organization reform and transregional governance model.
