Abstract

The article reveals that Ahmet Üzücü, director-general of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), has urged Egypt, Syria and Israel to join the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) if they are not yet able to work towards a zone free from weapons of mass destruction (WMD). He pointed out that chemical weapons have come to be of no military use and are morally unacceptable. The director-general cited incentives provided by the convention including protection against chemical weapons and technological development.
