Abstract
- The article examines the impact of Bt maize leaf detritus on aquatic invertebrates in headwater streams. It was found that the insect Lepidostoma liba grows slower when it is fed with Bt maize compared to non-Bt maize. There is no significant difference found in total abundance or biomass of benthic macroinvertebrate abundance between Bt and non-Bt streams. Shannon diversity in both streams is low while highly tolerant taxa is dominant in Bt and non-Bt streams.
