Abstract

There are fully ten theories of network exchange. All make metric predictions for exchange ratios, all have some predictive success and some are highly precise. Unfortunately, however all of the theories, even the most precise, can be applied only to quite small networks. To extend the range of application of network exchange theories, this paper shows how to cut large exchange networks into smaller component parts, parts to which any or all of the ten theories can be applied. As a result, a major scope restriction limiting those theories to small laboratory structures is lifted, and their implications for large structures in the field can now be investigated. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
