ENHANCING ANAEROBIC DIGESTION PROCESSES FOR IMPROVED BIOGAS PRODUCTION.

This paper reports the findings from studies carried out to determine the effect of enzyme addition on the efficiency of anaerobic digestion process. Some commercially available enzymes were used to study their performance in enhancing the rate-limiting hydrolysis step during anaerobic treatment of distillery wastewater. Results show that the addition of enzymes can enhance the hydrolytic activities in anaerobic digestion process (which will bring about increase in biogas production), but the performance depends on the nature and sources of the waste being treated and the type and dosage of enzyme.
