Abstract

The article focuses on Le Couteulx et Cie bank, located at 34 rue Ours, in Rouen, France, which was active during the 18<superscript>th</superscript> century. The author highlights the upward social mobility of the Le Couteulx family, the bank's building on Ours street described as a symbol of a bourgeois identity during the Ancien Régime. The author presents a detailed description of the building, together with an inventory of the goods owned by the family. Also discussed is the family hierarchy, and the rivalry between its members.
