Abstract

The article reports on more than 25,000 contact lens prescriptions globally in 2009. Wearer demographics were reportedly stable with female patients accounting for two-thirds of users and the oldest and youngest patients being 95 years old and 6 months old, respectively. It is stated that rigid, soft and extended wear contact lenses respectively accounted for 8 percent, more than 90 percent and less than 10 percent of new fits. The widely varying frequency of lens replacements is also noted.
