Abstract

The article discusses a study about the development of new non-rectangular quadrilateral Idealised Structural Unit Method (ISUM) element in accordance with the formulation of the isoparametric finite element method (FEM) element. A comparison is made between calculated results applying the new element and those by nonlinear FEM analyses. FEM is described as a general application for structural analyses on a ship's hull girder. A simulation of collapse behavior under in-plane thrust load is made with the element.
