Abstract: The article discusses a study that analyzed the data of historic typhoon waves and surges observed at Hua-Lien Waters in Taiwan from 1998 to 2007 using the methods of Rayleigh, Normal, Gamma, Generalized Extreme Value distributions and Weibull. According to the results of the study, the typhoon wave data is described by the Generalized Extreme Value distribution. Meanwhile, the typhoon surges are best described by Weibull distributions.
