Abstract
- The author describes how the interaction between official and fan-based media generated anticipation for the 2006 film "Snakes on a Plane," ensuring its status as a prefabricated cult film. She observes that following a blog post by screenwriter Josh Friedman in 2005, the film inspired an expanse of online fan production before its release, influencing both its production and its reception. She concludes that the cult phenomenon produced by the film signifies the move from considered reception towards pre-emptive celebration in the fan community.
