Abstract

The article discusses the authoritarian and libertarian concepts of rationality focusing on the theoretical rationality. It talks about the main tenets of the authoritarian rationalism, the concept of theoretical rationality that generates absurdities, and the libertarian approach derived from Karl Popper's critical rationalism. It notes the difference between theoretical and practical rationality and the contemporary philosophy of the human knowledge. It mentions the requirements for empirical knowledge in authoritarian approach and the freedom of thought in libertarian concept.
