Abstract

The article presents a study which looked at the activity patterns of albatrosses during the nonbreeding period. For this study, the researchers used data from combination geolocator-immersion loggers deployed on the wandering albatross Diomedea exulans, black-browed albatross Thalassarche melanoprhis, grey-headed albatross Thalassarche chrysostoma and light-mantled albatross Phoebetria palpebrata from South Georgia. According to them, light-maintled albatrosses were the most active at night, while grey-headed albatrosses were the most aerial and back-browed albatrosses had the shortest flight bouts during daylight.
