Abstract
- The article examines Lorna Goodison's poetry which was largely influenced by the fluid cultural interaction between Jamaica and Ireland. The intertwined colonial destinies have resulted to intersecting stories and national events for the two countries. Jamaican Lorna Goodison combined the griot style with Romantic poetry, Creole and Standard English to write poetry that denounce the hardships of her marginalized people. It states that Goodison's capacity to cross boundaries suggests a means of resisting cultural oppression.
