Abstract

The article discusses the report "The Condition of Education 2010" by the U.S. Education Department's (ED) National Center for Education Statistics, which found that the number of schools serving high-poverty populations has increased by five percentage points since the year 2000. It is suggested that the report findings could identify where ED could invest funds. The percentage of high-poverty secondary schools that were classified as alternative and special education schools is discussed.
