Abstract
- The article discusses the use of worms in the innovative effluent system of BioFiltro at Papawai, a Centre Bush dairy farm in Southland, New Zealand. According to BioFiltro directors, worms aerate a giant biological treatment bed made up of layers of sawdust, humus, rocks and other carbon fillers. The aim of the collaboration of BioFiltro with the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) is to gain approval. The total area needed for the bio-filtration bed and the weeping wall solid separation system is 1,500 square meters (sq m).
