Abstract

Chapter 31 of the book "The Media and the Rwanda Genocide" is presented. The author focuses on the importance of information in crisis areas in building peace. He relates his experiences as a journalist in Rwanda during the 1994 genocide in which he realized the need of the local people for non-partisan information, leading to the establishment of Radio Agatashya by fellow European journalists and the reduction in tension in the country. He offers information on the Hirondelle Foundation which aims to provide media services in areas experiencing crisis.
