Abstract

Treatment options for patients with missing maxillary lateral incisors include space closure (using canine substitution) and space reopening (for a single tooth implant or a traditional bridge). Although canine substitution seems to be an ideal approach for replacing missing lateral incisors without a future prosthesis, case selection and the procedures to improve the esthetic appearance should be seriously considered. The purpose of this article is to describe the treatment plan and treatment results of 2 cases in which canines were protracted to mimic missing maxillary lateral incisors, and also to address the guidelines for this camouflage approach.
