A Grim Year on the Academic Job Market for Historians.

Abstract: The article reports on the U.S. academic job market for historians as of January 2010. Statistics show the number of job openings for those with doctor of philosophy degrees. Employment concerns have increased since the number of job advertisements declined by 23.8 percent during 2008-2009. Trends in hiring patterns, job openings in relation to the geographic specialty of the historian, and the outlook for employment outside the academic market are mentioned.
