Turkish loanwords in the South-Slavic languages.

The Ottoman reign on the Balkans lasting several centuries influenced the linguistic and the cultural development simultaneously and with similar intensity with the South-Slavic countries. Their paths in any case interweaved through the history, being territorial adjacent and genealogically related languages, but still each of them individually created its own language and cultural identity. As a result of the individuality of each nation, i.e. their peculiar way of cultural comprehension and life style, the Macedonians, Serbs, Croats and the Bulgarians created their own vision for the world. The various representations for certain reality determined for one Turkish lexeme to develop various meanings in each language, which can be most realistic perceived in the every day communication within these Balkan nations, and the examples for analysis were excerpted exactly from those places where these informal communication happens - from different blogs and forums on the web pages of the respective countries. In this paper the lexemes from the abstract layer were mostly reviewed, where there is a higher possibility for semantic variations to emerge, different from the meaning of the concrete lexemes, which registered modifications as well. More frequent lexis of Turkish origin was reviewed in the four Slavic languages on comparative basis. The most characteristic feature of most of the loanword is their pejorative use nowadays, i.e. the descending of the language style at a lower level of communication. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
