Abstract

The article reports on the decision of Hanesbrands, a garment manufacturer based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to stop making its own yarn and instead outsource it from yarn suppliers. As part of this decision, the company has agreed to sell majority of its manufacturing operations to Parkdale, a yarn manufacturer based in Gastonia, North Carolina. The sale will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2009 and is expected to give Hanesbrands 100 million dollars in cost savings within six months.
