Abstract

Telephone studies have long been popular for studying personal opinions in fields from political science to sociology to criminology. While the pitfalls of this methodology have been well known for a considerable time, the changing nature of communication in general, and cell phone usage among young people in particular, create fresh problems for any researcher seeking to do phone studies within this demographic. This poster will examine the effects of cell phone use and changing technology on telephone research, as well as if and how these negative effects are outweighed by the benefits already known to current and past researchers. These effects will be examined using a telephone study which only sampled college students and will compare and contrast the many methodological benefits associated with contemporary telephone interviewing. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
