Abstract
- In Canada, if an individual is considered at risk to offend violently or sexually, the courts can request a peace bond order under sections 810.1 and 810.2 of the Canadian Criminal Code, for up to one year requiring the individual to follow strict conditions. The individual does not have to be convicted of a crime to be considered for the order and if they fail to agree to an order, they can be imprisoned for up to one year. The idea behind the orders is to closely monitor the individuals to prevent offending. Very little is known about how these orders are used. This paper examines multiple facets of these orders across Canada, including a profile of those who receive them, the nature of the conditions, and the success rate. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
