Abstract

The article presents a historical exploration into the event surrounding the adoption of the U.S. Federal Constitution in Connecticut. Details are given profiling several influential statesmen from Connecticut which participated and contributed to the debates of the 1780s regarding the formation of the U.S. Constitution, including Governor Jonathan Trumbull, William Samuel Johnson and Oliver Ellsworth. Subjects highlighted include the position of Connecticut regarding the role of central government in the future U.S., the comparative political theories of contemporary nations referenced at the time of its creation, and the financial responsibilities of the Congress. The events surrounding the ratification of the Constitution are also provided.
