Chapter 4: Masculinity and Self-Identity in Elite Triathlon, Body- Building and Surf Lifesaving.

Chapter 4 of section 1 of the book "Gender, Sexuality and Sport: A Dangerous Mix," edited by Dennis Hemphill and Caroline Symons is presented. It examines the social construction and experience of masculinity in three elite level Australian sports including triathlon, body-building, and surf-lifesaving. It uses in-depth interviews to gain perspective on the motives for sport participation in the context of masculinity and self-identity.
