The article discusses the personal papers, especially the military correspondence, of British Commanders in Chief in North America from 1754 to 1783, or, from the French-Indian War until the end of the American Revolution. Some of the British Generals considered include Major Generals Jeffrey Amherst, Thomas Gage, and Sir William Howe. The author discusses the archival collections in which the papers pertaining to the command of British troops in North American reside.
