Abstract

The article reports on an August 26, 2009 memorandum issued by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) stating that civilian federal agencies can waive entry-age restrictions for some veterans looking for federal jobs. According to the OPM, such agencies can lift age restrictions once they determine that age is not essential for the position applied for. The OPM adds that mandatory retirement age required for veterans exempted from the age restriction should be increased to enable them to serve full 20-year careers.
