Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the insulin resistance (IR) of obese castrated New Zealand white rabbits. The experiment, which involved twenty six clinically healthy male New Zealand white rabbits, was permitted by the Commission of Ethics at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Trakia University. Key findings confirmed data taken from intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVITT) manifesting that castrated rabbits became insulin resistant as a result of visceral obesity. Researchers found that IVITT and the inherent calculations of kinetic parameters represent a simple and reliable technique for evaluating insulin resistance in rabbits.
