Abstract
- The article presents a study that investigates the connection of single-mating occurrences (SMO) with farrowing rate and pigs born alive (PBA) in first-serviced and reserviced female pigs, and to determine the factors linked with SMO on commercial farms. The study analyzed data which include 91,233 farrowing and 11,334 service records on 117 farms. The results showed that higher SMO are apparent to reserviced females than first-serviced females, may be partially due to the different patterns of luteinizing hormones (LH) between first-serviced females and reserviced females. Moreover, it reveals that the key for improving reproductive performance in both first-serviced and reserviced females is the practice of multiple mating.
